The Chinese are coming!

My wife has been continually amazed at the variety of Chinese products available (as opposed to a serious lack of US products available in Shenzhen). It's been fun for her to find Jiangxi Noodles and other hometown delicacies in the US.

The number of Chinese speakers (in Utah) has also amazed her. We had the opportunity to attend the Governor's Gala last month and she was able to speak with Gov. Huntsman in Chinese and talk with his daughter (from China) too. BYU has a huge Chinese program and one of the largest groups of PRC students in the US too. Church in Chinese, hundreds of people from PRC, Taiwan, Hongkong has also been both a first and a good experience for her.

The Chinese community in the US will increasingly be a larger and larger part of the US fabric. As China grows in international importance, the overseas Chinese population will be more and more visible and important in the role they play. So I'm glad that at least one of my kids is fluent in Chinese and English both--next month we'll start on number two!
